Floxin is recommended for use in infectious and inflammatory diseases of the following organs and systems: respiratory tract (pneumonia, bronchitis); conditions of the ear, nose, and throat (otitis media, sinusitis, laryngitis, pharyngitis); skin disorders; disorders of the skeletal system (joints and bones); gastrointestinal infections; pyelonephritis and urinary tract (cystitis, urethritis); pelvic organs (salpingitis, oophoritis, endometritis, cervicitis, prostatitis, epididymitis, orchitis). The drug is used to treat gonorrhea, chlamydia, meningitis. It is also used for prevention of infections in patients with impaired immune status (including patients with neutropenia).

Floxin (ofloxacin) contraindications

Absolute contraindications: pregnancy and breastfeeding (lactation); hypersensitivity to ofloxacin or other quinolone derivatives; periods after stroke, traumatic brain injury and inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system (CNS); epilepsy; children and patients under 18 years of age.

The drug should with caution in the case of arteriosclerotic vascular disease, organic CNS lesions, chronic renal failure.

The dosage is determined depending on the severity of the infection and its localization, as well as the general condition of the patient, sensitivity of the microorganisms, and liver and kidney functions. Patients with impaired renal function should reduce the dose by 50% (dosing frequency 2 times a day). Patients on hemodialysis should use ofloxacin at a dose of 0.1 g 1 time per day.

The treatment should be continued for 3 days more after the disappearance of symptoms. Floxin tablets are taken whole with water, before meals or during meals. Floxin (ofloxacin) interaction with other medicinal products

Products containing calcium, magnesium, aluminum and iron salts may reduce the absorption of ofloxacin.

Cimetidine, methotrexate, furosemide may increase the concentration of ofloxacin.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), nitroimidazole derivatives and methylxanthines increase the risk of neurotoxic side effects.

Floxin (ofloxacin) warnings and precautions

Floxin tablets are not recommended for the treatment of acute tonsillitis. Do not use the drug for longer than 2 months.
