I have taken this medicine along (in a combination) with methotrexate and I won’t recommend to do this thing to anybody else as it was a big mistake and now I can hardly subdue the consequences. Since I have taken these 2 in combination my liver enzymes haven’t yet returned to normal even though I have tried to do it and it passed a little bit more than a year now. in general the combination made me feel sick, an overall feeling of illness. When I’ve described my feelings to my doctor he said that it was only a flare, but obviously it wasn’t only a flare as it was making me feel that ill continuously, without stopping. The doctor who said this was a general practitioner and he also added that most people who are on arava are feeling ill too so there’s nothing to worry about. Too bad because there WAS what to worry about. So, here’s how everything was: about 2 years ago or so I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) so I was given methotrexate right away. I have tried it for about 9 month plus or minus but I haven’t had much relief (if any). Over the time those doctors gave me a lot of different NSAID’s to take in combination with methotrexate but none of those combination have helped me at all. later, I have visited a new doctor hoping that this one would be better than the previous. This was the doctor who put me on arava along with methotrexate and that was the moment when the liver enzymes went extremely high. As I said, approximately one year already passed but my liver enzymes are still not back to the normal even with no drugs at all. I haven’t tried any drugs because I was very scared, because of that thing I got so scared that I didn’t wanted to take anything else, however, the wrist joint damage and pains have begun not so long ago and that’s why I have started to take plaquenil. Besides plaquenil I am taking milk thistle for the liver hoping that it would become better and obviously, I avoid all forms of alcohol and since then I haven’t drank at all. I don’t take it for so much time but so far I haven’t had much relief, I only need to wait now and see if there would be some. So far I only have side effects that I start being tired of: increased hot flashes (frequency and severity), some digestive issues (that I hope would pass) and I also have evening fatigue that I am SO tired of. I am also having Reynauds and Sjoerens. One last thing: 2 days ago I have had wheezing but I haven’t had it since I was on Arava plus methotrexate and when I have told this to my doctor he obviously said that it doesn’t anything to do with. I’m getting tired, don’t know how much I can tolerate all this. I just really hope that soon there would appear some relief.
