Hello. I have a problem and I don’t know what to do. The problem is that I suffer of cerebral palsy since I was a little kid. My cerebral palsy in on the mid of my right hand. I never thought that I’ll have big problems with my issue but the past week it happened and I now realize it is a problem for me. It’s not so serious but this is important for me. The problems is that I really love driving and 6 years ago I passed over different kind of doctors and specialists in order to be able now to driving I did thousands of tests. The past week I have had to passed over a new exam and I filed. It was the vision test. They said that there is something wrong with my vision that’s why I can’t drive for now. I don’t know how to act in this situation. I really love to drive and for me driving is very important it’s a part of my life and of my work, besides the fact that I love driving, I need it for my work. Now, that I can’t drive a feel like I’m a disabled woman that can do the thing that she wants and can’t take care of herself. I consider that I see very well and I filed the test just because I didn’t observe a little thing. The thing that I hate most is that they linked the bad vision as they consider with my cerebral palsy. I would like to find out more information about this. Is this possible to have the vision problems connected with the cerebral palsy? Another thing that I would like to find out if there is possible to do something in order to drive again. Maybe I can find here somebody that have experienced the same thing and that can help me.

Hi there and everybody else. I know that you can’t believe it but this is linked with your vision. My wife has the same thing and some months ago her disease become even worse than how it was before. In fact she became quite blind on her left eye. The right eye it’s okay but for her doctor wasn’t enough just one eye to let her drive because he said that it is too risky. When she found out that she can’t drive anymore she felt very depressed. In fact she was driving for more than 17 years and now she is depressed and feel bad about this situation, but she understands that this a good decision. As my wife says it’s better to prevent this and to stay home, she understands that if she will drive now then something can happen to her. She started to get use without her car, sometimes I let her drive near the house when she miss it a lot but most of the time she use the public transports and now she loves to walk during the day. She still hope that someday she will be able to drive again because we’re trying to fix it. I don’t know how about your situation is but if the exams showed that you can’t drive then it means that it will be better for you. It doesn’t mean that you can’t drive for you entire life and that you have to forget about this forever. Maybe after some years you’ll be able to drive again. And don’t consider that you are the only one in this world with this disease and this problem; there are thousand of people that have the same problem. I know is important for you to drive but I think that is more important to be safe and I think that you have to understand that driving is not so safe for you now.

Hi people, this is kind of a relief feeling when I see that my sister is not the only person in this kind of situation. She is also suffering from Cerebral Palsy and she is only 22 years old. I am not sure what type of CP she has but I know that it can be hard to live like that. she is attending now college in order to become a nurse and from all my family member she has been the only one that has ever accomplished so much. the biggest issue she is now dealing with is that she finds it pretty hard to get from a place to another unless there is somebody with her who can drive her around. She is always afraid to ask for some rides due to the fact that she is thinking that it is a torture that in fact it is not never will be. I am currently trying to search for something that would get her some classes on how to drive. It is really breaking my heart when I see that she cannot accomplish what she wants and what she has planned only because the bus stops to run at 9 Pm or due to the fact that from time to time she is mussing the bus. I really want to know if there are any first steps that we could take in order to help her. what you guys think, where should I go so I can help her, how can I get started? I see that you’ve posted this some time ago and I’ve been thinking that maybe you have found a solution to this problem. please, if it is so, post your information, we would really appreciate this! thank you all in advance for all of your answers!

Hey there Krystyna and everyone else. I have been born with mild left side CP. You said that you are not sure on your sister type but since you said that she can accomplish so much I think that it is a mild type too. I guess because it was only a mild left side CP it did not interfered with my driving so much. or I’m not sure. The point is that I have been afraid to learn on how to drive either. I do understand very well what your sister feels. It passed a lot of years until I have decided to go to a driving school. Nearly all my friends got their licenses when they were 16, I have only took the decision to attempt the driving school at 22. Anyway, it has worked and I guess this is what really matters. I would suggest your sister to get into her head the fact that she really can drive and she has no problems with it. she should believe in it and fight with her fears. In case everyone can do it, why she wouldn’t? I know that she thinks that the rest are not having CP, however, I have and I drive, so if I can do it then she can too. I can talk with her privately if she wants.
