Pains in left quadrant

Hey ppl, about a little more than a month ago I’ve developed a dull pain in my upper left quadrant (it is located below my bottom rib on my left side) and I’m suffering from it still now. Everything started one morning. The night before this I’ve had few beers with a friend of mine and we ate a little more than I usually do before I go to sleep. Well, everything was fine so I went to bed. The next morning these pains appeared but I didn’t pay so much attention thinking that they would go away. However, after one week of these constant pains plus a feeling like there is a swelling where the pains comes from, I understood that something is wrong. Besides these, I’ve also noticed that I have a feeling of being bloated after I ate something and a feeling of being incredibly full. Anyway, it doesn’t seem to be associate with my eating habits because now, after a little more than a month experiencing these pains, my appetite and my diet have not changed at all. The thing that changes is that with time, these dull aches expanded at times to cover some of the right upper quadrant below my ribs and in addition the left of my navel area too. Anyway, I seem to experience these pains completely random. At first I thought that they are disappearing when I’m going to the bathroom but later I’ve noticed that it doesn’t. now, I think that I seem to hurt when I stand for a longer period of time or whenever I’m holding in my hands something pretty heavy for a few minutes (like my one year old son). That is why, my opinion about this is that it can be related to muscles because when I’m lying down it doesn’t seem to hurt. Another thing I’ve noticed is that I never wake up in the morning with these pains, they only start when I’m walking a bit around and they can randomly appear.

I’ve searched a little bit over the internet and I’ve found horrible responses but I calmed down after I read one post. Anyway, I do know that I have a horrible diet but as I said, it doesn’t seem to be related to it. It comes randomly. As I said, the only thing is that if I lay straight flat on my back and lift my head it doesn’t seem to hurt me at all but if I stay in a crouched position these unpleasant pains in the area appear. There are little differences: from time to time I have a dull ache but other times I’m experiencing stabbing type of pain, like someone is stabbing me continuously with something. I’m very and very glad when I don’t have these pains but… now, approximately 6 or 7 weeks later after that night and I still have the ache and the stabbing, disturbing pain. Lately it doesn’t seem that the pains are getting worse but since then it doesn’t seem to pass a day without me to suffer from these pains for hours. Yeah, it happens when I don’t feel it but as I know, they don’t have to be there at all. There are some days when they are very worse but there are some “lucky” days when they are slightly noticed. I have few more options what is responsible for the pains: maybe it could be related to my colon, or it could be ulcer or perhaps the abdominal wall and as I mentioned above: muscle related pain.

Even if the pains are manageable (and they are many times because I can make them stop by going somewhere and lay down in a bed for few minutes while I’m feeling comfortable) but I consider that this isn’t normal as it goes like that for more than a month. About the lump (swelling area I’ve told you above) – I don’t know for sure if it’s indeed a lump or something abnormal because there IS a chance that I have it all my life and I didn’t noticed it but maybe it appeared along with the pain. I can feel the lump when pressing my bottom left rib but it can’t really be felt when simply try to massage that area. I perfectly understand that I should go and visit a doctor asap but I have few problems with my health insurance now. Everything is going to be fine after one month but one month I can’t go and visit it. That is why, I really and really hope that I would get some help here. Any kind of suggestions you can give me based on my symptoms would be awesome! I really hope that this is a flare up simply needs some more time to go away but I’m afraid that this could be something even more serious and life threatening. That is why, your advices and suggestions are so important to me. Thanks in advance for everything!

hey nike, my husbad is suffering from the exact same symptoms as you wrote there but he is also having a mild fever every single day, about 100.5 to around 101.5. I see him suffering and we’re both tired of this. Same place with same whole thing. He has these symptoms for no less than the last 8 weeks and since then we’ve done many many tests such as endoscopy, colonoscopy and cat scans. They found gastritis and some kind of inflammation in patches of his small and his large intestine. The docs told us that it is post infection inflammatory syndrome and as I understood it is some kind of a stomach bug that cannot heal properly. You should go to doctor and check it too.  My husband done an MRI so the doc referred him to another specialist who’s not activating in our city. We’re also frightened that this could be something related to muscles. I just want to ask you to keep me updated of what you found and what treated your problem. That would be awesome! Thank you for everything.

Let me know if some of you find something please. I also have the same pain in the upper left quadrant right under the rib cage for about a little more than a year now. I’m finally scheduled on having a CT scan in few days and hope that this would bring me some answers. If I find something I would let you know but I have a feeling that it’s useless. Anyway, the docs have been treating me for urinary tract infection aka UTI and the pains can go away for a while but then they are always coming back. About a little less than two months ago I’ve quit to smoke and to drink so I guess that is why I’m now having lightheadedness and nausea but I’m not fully sure about that. I would really want to know what’s really causing the pains on my upper left quadrant. As the initial user mentioned, I also have swelling whenever my pains are bad, or worse than usual. By the way, since I am having this problem I have finished three rounds of three different anti biotics but all of them seemed completely useless. By the way, one of the docs (only one among many that I’ve asked) told me that this could be due to anxiety. I personally think this is crazy, but anything would be good to be taken in consideration… please re post if you find any kind of information

Hey, I am happy that I found this thread with people that have problem similar to mine. I am having intestinal issues and stomach pains for about one year or so but it could be even longer than one year, I suppose, but I never paid attention initially. That is why, at first, I never went to check myself out. The reason was that I was thinking it is due to my lack of my gall bladder that is delivering me the problems. I had my gall bladder out about five years ago. When I started to have some shooting pains in my sides (really painful) I finally went to see some doctors and check it out. By the way, besides those pains I also had some bathroom issues so I thought that they are related. Well, I went and saw a rheumatologist before I ever went to see a gastro doctor. I firstly went to a rheumatologist doctor because I thought that all the pains in my joints, numbness in my hands and feet, nausea, daily headaches and insomnia (as well as other symptoms) are all caused by some autoimmune troubles. By the way (again) I had some irregular blood work before seeing that doctor. Obviously, I have told my doctor about my gastro troubles and my constant pains. After I’ve told her my problems and after she looked at me she asked me if I ever have had a Celiac disease test that should be done by my GP. When I’ve been tested, it should a positive result which means that I have it.

After that, I have seen my gastro doctor who said that I should have a colonoscopy and an endoscopy but it scheduled me in one month. He said that I shouldn’t change my diet, however, I have cut out some gluten from my diet, however, I am still having some gluten. Now, I am struggling with constant pain and discomfort besides that I am having Celiac. Moreover, my doc said that I am possibly having something else, like colitis. I am worried that in addition I can have Crohn’s disease. Honestly, I am already tired of searching about everything, I just wish it would end. Well, lately, my pains are located under the ribs, occasionally on one side but other times on both of them. the real thing that scares the hell out of me is that I have found out a strange lump on my right side a couple of days ago, right under my right ribs. Doubtless, I could feel it there because it was hard. I am scared and these days I’m going to call my gastro doctor to check out what the hell is that. I really need to know what is that and what can I do in order to deal with it, to fix my problem or to avoid some triggers that could make it even worse. I don’t know what should I do. is there anybody else who is diagnosed with Celiac, Colitis or Crohn’s disease? Or maybe something else? This is nothing funny, it’s scary!
