Stop smoking and weight gain

I quit smoking about 6 months ago and i gained about 15 lbs. At first i didn't think there is a connection between the 2, however, i'm getting surer every day. I used to smoke about 10 cigarettes per day, with morning coffee, little breaks work, after meals, and in the evening of course. Smoking was a way of ritual, when i was angry i used to calm down with a cigarette, have long talks with my friends, a good smoke after sex...well, cigarettes were always near me. Since i've decided to quit, i started to find "answers/solutions" in food. I hate it, but i have to keep my hands and mouth busy. I have to admit i constantly think of grabbing a cigarette, i even smoke in my dreams. I'm proud of my achievements, but sometimes i would rather get back smoking and lose weight than don't smoke and gain it tremendously.

hey kelly you are right! stop smoking and weight gain really are connected between them... i decided to stop smoking for about 2 months now and i got already 10 lbs. as you, cigarettes were always near me, after sex, after meal with a coffee an so on, i smoked about 15 cigarretes a day for approximately 4 years. i understand that you constatly think of grabbing a cigarette, i'm in the exact same situation and i'm really frustrated that after i stopped smoking i gained these lbs... i'm really worried that this is going to continue like that and i'm going to gain too much weight. all of my friends are smoking and i'm not the only one who tried to quit this bad habit and they also can assert that after quitting smoking they had a urge to eat all day. i'm having this urge too... and not only because i need to have my mouth and my hands busy, but i'm really hungry every time! i guess we just need to endure it... :(

I've found your post by accident and I could not believe it. I had ideas that quitting smoking can be somehow connected with my weight gain but I never thought about it as something seriously, I thought that this is just my imagination, now I see that it doesn't. I didn't really had any problems with weight but lately I noticed I gained some and right after few weeks or maybe months, after quitting smoking, very strange that they're connected. But now as I think more about it I see that it is logical, as tom green, I always had a urge to eat all day having my mouth and hands busy as well as being hungry. Too bad there's nothing we can do about it, to make it stop. Hope we all are going to pass through this.
