Hello everyone, can someone help? I have a problem and I would like to get some help. Not so long ago I did a pregnancy test, and it came up positive. From the beginning I could not believe it and I’ve done 3 more tests to be completely sure that it’s true. So they all come up positive and there’s no doubt that I’m pregnant. The problem is that the baby’s father has Asperger’s syndrome, so I would like to know if this is hereditary. Should I be worried about this? What are the chances of the baby being born with this symptom? Thank you!

Well, I don't know for sure but there are chances... That's because I've read that Asperger's syndrome is believed to be hereditary. I don't want to scare you but this is the truth. Anyway, it is not 100% that your child will be born with this disease. I only want to say that there are some chances and that's it. Anyway, I also read that you won’t know about that until your child is about pre school age. I read that the symptoms start to appear only in that age. Also, in the same place I read that it is more likely to run this disease with males as well, it rarely runs in female patients. However, I don't think that any of this is proven because all of this is just theory. In the end who knows? Anyway, don't get stressed because of that, maybe your child is perfectly fine but because you're going to be stressed it could lead to some issues? Try to calm down and to think positively, I know that everything will be just fine!

In my opinion it’s not a simple question since as I know, Autism and Asperger’s are not hereditary themselves but there are conditions developing it. So it means that technically it is hereditary…

There are several triggers in developing this disease for some people and that is why I recommend you to follow some steps. Since you know almost for sure that developing some of these diseases is hereditary then I recommend for your child’s best to do whatever you need just to avoid those triggers. I don’t know for sure what are they and obviously I don’t know all of them but I’ve read that some known triggers for this condition are gluten, artificial sugars, casein, some certain vaccines, some certain chemicals that are found in our food and etc. It would be very good if you’re going to search the internet about this thing, about the disease, triggers and so on. Ask as many doctors about this thing as you can. Read as much as you can and inform yourself as much as you can about everything related to autism and Asperger’s disease. Your child will say thank you one day for doing it.

There are some things that you can really do to help your baby and try to find them and obviously to do them. I do understand that it’s not easy and that this is not the best what could happen but… anyway, you still don’t know for sure if your baby will be born with this disease or no so don’t lose your hope. Even if it’s so then it’s not the end of the world. I hope that everything will be just fine with you and with your baby.

By the way, I would recommend your husband (or simply the baby’s father) to search with you and to avoid triggers because as I know they not only trigger the condition but can aggravate the disease making it even worse as it was. I’m sure both of you can make thru it, you just need to be patient and to do whatever it takes to lower the chances of your baby to be born with this.
