I am having chronically infected lingual tonsils and I’m wondering if there is anybody else with this? Their location is behind the base of my tongue, for those who don’t understand what I’m talking about and the infection is coming right back after each time they are growing. Now I’m living in a hell. I’m having a very and very sore throat, but those who know what I’m talking about I think they can understand this.

I’m struggling with this problem for some time already and obviously I have been to my doctor to ask him what is going on. I have been tested for allergy and the results were normal, I have had CT scans and again everything was just fine. Moreover I have been treated for thrush. The ENT doctors said that I should have my lingual tonsils removed elsewhere I’m not going to escape from this hell but when I visited my family doctor he recommended me not to have the surgery and I don’t really know why. I’m thinking to have this surgery because my doctor isn’t living this hell I’m living with this unbelievable painful and sore throat. I’m feeling awful and horrible!

I’m a male and in generally good health except this. So I wanted to ask you what should I do? What advices you have for me? I would really like to talk about this with those who already had this surgery and can give me some feedback. Please and thank you!

My issues are similar- I feel like something is large; I'm getting small pills stuck in my throat. I saw our ENT who said my throat was trashed from acid reflux- I told him I'm on a high dose of Nexium- he said to take more. I've been on most of acid reflux medicines and I'm tired as nobody else taking them and feeling so. I'm tired of gettin pills stuck in my throat all the time. Over the course of almost a year, my GP also sent me to get 2 ultrasounds at different points and finally a CT, I really can't understand these doctors and I'm getting so upset on them that I can't find words to describe. When went last time to my doctor he spent a lot of time with me, looked over my CT images on the computer, and explained how my acid reflux and gastritis after pregnancy probably started my chronic lingual tonsilitis (Yes, I've been pregnant). Can you tell give me any more details on what yours turned out to be and what have you done about it? I'm suffering mostly from the same things and I mean difficulty swallowing, cough, pain and feeling of something in my throat getting bigger. I don't smoke and I never did so I'm getting so upset when a smoker is living his normal life but I need to live in the same hell as you... Hope we're going to find some answers, I hope it really bad. Don't forget to write some updates! PLEASE!

Hi you two, you have a similar situation to mine. I’m suffering from lingual tonsillitis too and as I noticed, there are few doctors who can deal with it. Many of them are telling me that what I have is quite rare. So well, my story starts when I was only a child: I had one of my tonsil removed and now, when I first told about my problem to my family doctor he said that my problem doesn’t have nothing to do with tonsil at all due to the removal. I was treated for different infections and for strep throat but as you can think, none of them worked. After that I was on antibiotics for 3 days… I was suffering from immense pains: I had a very hard time to swallow, I was getting a terrible ear ache and had a muffled voice. Only after all these pains I was hospitalized for 2 days because I had restriction to the air way. Besides all those pains I could have died in my sleep because of the air way restriction so they said I was lucky! In the beginning they all thought that I had an infection of my vocal cords but after many, many tests, scans, steroids taken and all those antibiotics they have FINALLY understood that all of this is due to lingual tonsillitis. Only in then I’ve finally got the diagnose. Now I’m very and very tired of having it, even though more than one year passed, I am still suffering from some pains in my throat and in my ears each day. I’m getting checked some times a year to monitor it but they said that there’s no more left that they can do about it. Nowadays I’m missing so much the old me… I hope for a solution but as time passes I’m getting more and more depressed.
