Plaquenil side effects

Hello, I would really love to know what are the risks of taking Plaquenil.

My doctor prescribed it to me even though I am not diagnosed with a firm lupus - but I have strange autoimmune problem and it affects my central nervous system. I feel like a zombie - my hands and legs are very weak and I'm having lack of concentration. I am getting tired quickly and I am getting problems working because of this problem. There are some lucky days when I do feel perfectly normal, but unfortunately they are very rare - most days I have these symptoms.

That is why I have to take this medication but I want to know it side effects. I've already done some research about it and found out that my stomach can start bothering me, it can affect my eyes and I will have hair fall. Is this so bad? Because I've read some cases where it worked perfect and cured people just fine. I want to ask other people if someone is already taking it? And what side effects do you noticed? I really would like to know everything you've got about this medication.

I hope for a quick feedback, thanks in advance.

I take plaquenil and I've been taking it for about 2 months now. Yes, I also heard and it's true that it have a side effect as making your hair fall out or give you stomach pains, however I haven't noticed yet any of these side effets, I guess it's different for person to person. In my opinion you should wait and see if the any of side effects comes too bad and then go and discuss it with your doctor who prescripted it. I know that planquenil is made for helping to deal with fatigue, pains and aches but I also know that it effects can work out after 3 months of taking it, or even longer, so you have to be patient I doubt that you're going to have a noticeable effect soon. If you take it I hope that it will work perfect for you without any side effect. As it works for me. Good luck with it.

Hey there everyone! I am taking plaquenil and it works very well for me so I hope that it is going to work for everyone as it is working for! Let me tell you how it all started. At the age around of 21 I was getting very tired easily, I was having joint pains and I was very fatigued and later a doctor diagnosed me with asthma. I don’t even want to remember that time because I was full of pains and I was feeling like I’m the sickest person in the world. The doctors then gave me some kind of medicine called prednisone but for me it was horrible, I could not stand it! I was getting even worse because I gained some weight within a week and I had swellings, headaches, constant stomach pains and it doesn’t matter how hard I was trying I just could not focus on anything! I was feeling completely bad!! I don’t know how I survived but I was almost all the time like that for about a little more than a year after I went to a private doctor to whom I told all my symptoms and everything about how I was feeling. The doctor was shocked to see someone in my age having so many troubles with his health… Eh.. I guess I’m just that lucky. There I have had a lot of blood tests and after that the doctor diagnosed me with arthritis this being the reason why he gave me this plaquenil. Little time later it was a miracle but I was feeling myself much better! I got rid of the pains, I wasn’t fatigued and I haven’t had those oral ulcers anymore. Even so, I could not miss even one pill lest I would have all those symptoms right back again. Later I came back to that doctor to tell him about this and he said to keep him updated with everything and that day he said that my official diagnose is “systemic lupus”. Well, I was experiencing some side effects of this plaquenil for lupus but later everything came back to normal. I just could not miss any pill. Anyway, for me it is much much better than prednisone. Generally everything is fine, but I have to be “addicted” to it in order to feel myself better and now I’m ok. Hope everyone is going to feel at least how I am now feeling.

I was suffering from the Lupus Symptoms for more than a year now but the doctors were able to diagnose it just recently - about 4 months ago. After they diagnosed the Lupus they also put me on Plaquenil and I just started only few weeks ago to feel it's effects and to be honest I would say that it has benefits on me. My pains are reduces, I can feel some improvements in my energy level. I also take Prednisolone combined all together. I really don't have any complaints about the medication as it seems to be helping with my condition slowly. As everyone, I do have common and usual side effects but nothing really serious and very rare. I'm sorry that you had to go thru what have you described, however you have to remember that the medication you are taking is whole new to your body and maybe your body will take some time to get use to it. This may be responsible to what you had to suffer. I assume that at this time you are going through it but with time, after few months you will start noticing the changes and the benefits of it. I'm really pleased with its effects and I hope that in time you're going to be too. I was suffering severe lupus symptoms, when I was misdiagnosed before my correct diagnose and given any other medications I was feeling awful! Only plaquenil has made my life to come somehow back to normal and I'm really thankful for that! I'm kind of feel back to normal. Even if I still have some little pains sometimes they are nothing comparted to how I felt before it. With plaquenil I'm feeling in the best way how I felt in the last year, I only believe that each person is different so everyone will react with this medication differently. Give it some time and then see the effects. If you're having severe side effects then contact your doctor and let him give you something else. Also be careful if your diagnose was right. Before being diagnosed with Lupus I had 2 wrong diagnoses.
