I've been taking 20 mg of omeprazole for 10 days and i don't see any good changes in my condition. Is it a normal thing? Should i take it longer or shall i stop taking it? I haven't noticed any bad effects on me, however, i have the impression i'm taking some placebo pills. Nothing works. Is it a normal thing? Can anyone advice?

Hey anselmo, welcome to our forum! Best thing to do in your case is consult the doctor that prescribed you this medication. It is possible fo the medication to have a late effect, that depends of the gravity of your condition, the effects may come later. PPi drugs work by stopping the organism to produce stomach acid, so at this point, maybe you're only at the "preparation stage". People take PPI medication for years, this type of medications are mild, not aggressive to the organisms like antibiotics, normally it has to be taken for a long period of time to see improvements.

In any case, cotact your doctor, he/she shall know best. You doctor might change it to Pantoprazole or other PPI drug.

Good luck and be healthy!

Thank you for the reply! I have contacted my doctor and he said the same thing, to be patient:) If nothing changes in 10 more days, i will switch to pantoprazole. Thanks again!

Hey there! I'm having same problem as you, and omeprazol didn't work for me neither. I'm taking pantoprazole, well actually im taking it's generic form, which is much cheaper, prtonix. It is the same thing, contains the same active ingredients as the brand drug. The thing is that i have to take the drug as long as i live, so i need to watch my expenses, you can try it as well. If omeprazol is not doing its job, then you should consider of maybe changing it, i did so:) Omeprazol gave me dizziness and headaches, it was a pain n the ass. I actually had to deal with its side effects rather than its beneficial effects, that's why i changed. Anyways, is omeprazol everything your doc prescribed?

People you should know that taking a medication for acid reflux (in your case Prilosec) but in the same time eating everything what you see with your eyes it is bad. Your medication would never show any effects if you will continue doing it. I was doing the same mistake. I am diagnosed with acid reflux for few years now and I’ve been on most acid reflux medications. Even though I have tried only a little bit to keep a track of my diet, I was mostly ignorant about it. this was my biggest mistake. I don’t know if Prilosec would ever work but I’m now on Nexium. My situation lately was getting worse and worse. I was having a big dose of Nexium but the doc told to take even a bigger one because the effects were little. I understood that if I will continue doing the same thing I am going to end bad so I have started to eat correctly. I’ve found out what are the trigger foods and I have started to avoid them, this is what I recommend you to do. Some of these trigger foods are chocolate, mustard, cream and many others. You can find them on the internet or you can write me privately and I’ll give you a full list. Anyway, my medication (nexium) also didn’t showed any effects but as soon as I started to eat correctly I am taking it two times a month and I’m fine. Maybe Prilosec would also work if having a good diet. If it won’t work even in this case then I recommend Nexium.
