What's causing my lip to peel constantly?

hi. i have a problem that seems to be nothing serious and easy to cure but in fact it isn’t. i’m having the problem for more than two years now and i wouldn’t be here if i would find a cure but despite all i’ve done i still didn’t had success ‘til now. seriously, i start thinking that there’s nothing that could help me now but i have one last hope… well, i would try to explain it to the best i can so you can precisely know what is my problem and maybe somebody knows the answer… hopefully. so, one of my lip (only the bottom lip, the top is fine and it was always fine) is getting dry constantly, so dry that the skin is always becoming flaky and that’s why it peels off in sheets. i don’t know, it’s like the upper skin got burned or something, some kind when you’re getting sunburn. in order to keep it in a normal and decent state i have to keep using on a moisture all the time without exceptions. i’ve tried a lot of them hoping that something will help, but it doesn’t. nothing can cure this problem. now, i’m using aquaphor on a daily basis and even though it helps me a little bit it’s far not perfect or as it should normally be. when i’ve searched about my problem some info i found out that this could be due to dehydration but as i have this problem for more than two years i really doubt that this has something to do with dehydration. so much time being dehydrated seems too much for me. moreover, i’ve tried to drink as much water i could be it doesn’t seem to help me at all. creams, lotions and multi vitamins – there’s nothing i didn’t try. as you can understand my question is if you have some suggestions for me. it doesn’t matter if you don’t know for sure if it would help me, any kind of advice would be appreciated! thank you!

I’m also having this problem and it seems that I have it for even more time than you. Moreover, it seems that my problem is even worse because my bottom lip is peeling in massive flakes every 30 minutes or even in less than 30 minutes. Exactly as you, in all these several years I have this problem I wasn’t able to find a cure even though I’ve also used creams, lotions, balms and chap sticks. I never thought about searching for information on the forums but as I’ve seen your topic it hit me. What makes me even more frustrated is that I’m a girl and I’m not able to wear any lipsticks or/and lip gloss because it falls down immediately with my burnt skin. In addition, it feels very embarrassing for a girl to pick off the dead skin from my lips every few minutes. It kinda seems ugly to me… I’m trying not to lick my lips so the problem doesn’t have anything to do with licking your lips. I was thinking that it is something related with my overbite. Because I cannot fully close my mouth, the air that is passing thru my lips is drying the lip quickly. Exactly as you, I desperately want to know what should I do about this because I’m very sick of temporary fixes now… initially it didn’t seem such a big problem for me, but now…. it makes me frustrated! Please write back if you find something!

Hello. I also have this flaky lips problem for about five years now and it seemed that there’s nothing I can do to treat them until recently. I can’t really understand how really bad is your problem but I guess mine is the worst because sometimes, it gets sooooo bad that even the entire skin AROUND my both lips is becoming also flaky and it also starts to peel off. I think that this means that I’m having the last and the worst stage of this problem. for years I’m not going anywhere without Vaseline and if I forget it then it’s really awful! I had A LOT of theorems why I am having this problem: for example I thought that this is due to cold weather but I moved on (not because of this problem) in another state (California) and here the weather is very good. that is why weather has nothing to do with this. later I thought that this might be due to my toothpaste, I’ve changed it to others, many others. For two days I didn’t even brush my teeth but it made it all even worse. I still don’t really know for sure why I’m having this, it is like without any reasons my lips skin is sucking too much the moisturizer and they’re becoming very flaky every 10 minutes. I have seen two different dr. and two different dermatologists. I have tried more than 10 home remedies and a lot of lip care stuff. I have tried medicines prescribed by the dermatologists, some of them were 50$+. If I’m not wrong then it is called “Elidel” a cream that should treat my problem. it didn’t. I have even tried some creams that made my lips to become even worse. All four dr. apparently don’t have any idea how to cure my lips problem. here is just one little tip: I have noticed that our hard to cure condition is easier to cure with organic products. I’ve had very much researching and “tests” where I’ve noticed that stuff which contains chemical things is harmful for our condition. We should make sure that what we are rubbing on our lips isn’t harmful for them. I am trying to say that we should try to use only organic lip creams, without any chemicals. I have found few days ago a lip balm that is much more helpful than any other out there: Burt’s Beewax. That is because it contains more than 95% of natural organic things. For our lips this thing is very important. Since I’ve found it, I can apply it to my lips only two times per day and my lips aren’t peeling like crazy. I’m not using Vaseline constantly because I don’t need since I’ve found it. I really don’t know if this thing would continue to work because I’m using it for a couple of days and I definitely don’t know if this thing would ever cure my problem but this is the best thing I have ever found in so many years. I really hope that it would continue to work at least in the way it is working now. here is why I am doing in order to get rid of this problem and this is what I recommend to you too: you should drink plenty of water and this really means PLENTY! You should wash your lips after each meal in order to keep them clean. And the last, of course, to use this lip balm, Burt’s Beewax. At least this is what I am doing and it works so I’m nearly sure that it will work for you too.
