Abilify (aripiprazole) drug information
Abilify is included in the group of antipsychotic (neuroleptic) drugs. It is assumed that the therapeutic effect of Abilify in the treatment of schizophrenia is caused by a combination of partial agonist activity at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5HT1A receptors, and antagonist activity at serotonin 5HT2 receptors. Abilify can be taken if the patient suffers from schizophrenia (acute attacks and during supportive therapy), bipolar I disorder (manic episodes, supportive treatment to prevent recurring manic and depressive episodes in patients with bipolar I disorder). The drug is also used in therapy with lithium or valproic acid for the treatment of manic or mixed episodes with or without psychotic symptoms, or as adjunctive therapy in major depressive disorder.
Dosage indications for Abilify (aripiprazole)
The initial dose for Abilify in schizophrenia is of 10-15 mg once daily, regardless of meals. The maintenance dose should be taken as 15 mg once a day.
