Accupril (quinapril) description
Accupril (quinapril) is an antihypertensive drug (ACE inhibitor) with vasoconstrictor activity. Quinapril (quinapril hydrochloride) is used in patients with moderate to severe hypertension. This drug increases myocardial blood supply and reduces platelet aggregation. The antihypertensive effect develops over 1 hour after ingestion and lasts for 24 hours.
Accupril (quinapril) indications for use and dosage
Accupril (quinapril) is used to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure. It is effective as a monotherapy or in combination with thiazide diuretics and beta-adrenergic blocking agents.
Accupril monotherapy: the recommended initial dose is 10-20 mg 1 time per day (for patients who do not take diuretics). The dose can be increased to 20-40 mg per day (divided in 1-2 doses). The maximum dose of quinapril is 80 mg per day.
Accupril with diuretics: the initial recommended dose is 5 mg. It can be gradually increased to 10 mg.
