Coversyl (perindopril) general information

Coversyl (perindopril) is a drug with hypotensive effect. It is used to treat arterial hypertension and chronic heart failure. In addition, the drug is indicated in patients who have had a stroke or transient ischemic attack (as part of combination therapy with indapamide).

Perindopril has a positive effect on the heart. The active substance is rapidly absorbed and the maximum effect is already seen within four to six hours.

Contraindications for Coversyl (perindopril)

Coversyl (perindopril) should not be used in patients with angioedema, hypersensitivity to the drug, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Caution is recommended in patients with reduction in circulating blood volume (associated with diuretics, dialysis, vomiting, diarrhea, salt-free diet), renovascular hypertension, hyponatremia, cerebrovascular disease, angina (high risk of sudden drops in blood pressure), bilateral stenosis, chronic heart or renal failure (risk of hypokalemia), connective tissue diseases (scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus), kidney transplantation, concomitant therapy with immunosuppressants (risk of neutropenia and agranulocytosis), aortic valve stenosis, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, hyperkalemia, glucose-galactose malabsorption, lactase deficiency, galactosemia, diabetes (risk of hypoglycemia in patients receiving hypoglycemic agents).

The drug should be used with caution in the case of general anesthesia during surgery (risk of arterial hypotension), as well as in patients up to 18 years of age and in the elderly.

Coversyl (perindopril) dosage and administration

Coversyl (perindopril) tablets should be taken 1 time per day (before breakfast).

Recommended dosage:

Heart failure (in combination with digoxin or diuretic): initial dose - 2 mg. Patients should start the therapy under close medical supervision. The drug dose can be increased to 4 mg after 1-2 weeks of therapy.

Essential hypertension: initial dose - 4 mg. The dose can be increased to 8 mg (within a month). Possible sharp drop in blood pressure is possible in case of concomitant therapy with diuretics. Therefore, patients should stop taking diuretics or reduce the initial dose of Coversyl to 2 mg.

Renovascular hypertension: initial dose - 2 mg. The dose can be gradually increased (if necessary).

Elderly patients should start with an initial dose of 2 mg and gradually increase up to the maximum tolerated dose - 8 mg. The drug can be started at any time after a stroke (from 2 weeks to several years). The dosage regimen for patients with hepatic impairment is the same as for other groups. If you accidentally skip the prescribed dose, take the next dose before the next meal.
