What is Moduretic
This product is a combination of amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide. Moduretic is used as a diuretic for hypertension (persistent blood pressure), and heart failure. It is also effective in edema syndrome in cirrhosis.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a substance with mild diuretic action. It is used to increase the excretion of Na+, Cl-, K+, Mg2+. Amiloride reduces the excretion of K+ and Mg2+. Amiloride enhances the diuretic effect and reduces the risk of hypokalemia (lowers the level of potassium in the blood). The combination of these components reduces the risk of hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia. The diuretic effect can be achieved within 2 hours. The effect lasts for 24 hours.
