Premarin pharmacological action
Premarin belongs to the class of drugs containing conjugated estrogens. It contains a mixture of natural estrogens (conjugated estrogens), which are similar to endogenous estrogens.
Premarin is used to relieve menopausal symptoms in women associated with estrogen deficiency: vasomotor disorders (including hot flashes), and urogenital symptoms (atrophic vaginitis and atrophic urethritis).
Premarin prevents the development of post-menopausal osteoporosis and reduces bone resorption (but does not stimulate bone formation).
The drug lowers blood cholesterol levels, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Premarin indications for use
Premarin is used to treat certain disorders that occur in women during menopause and after the menopause. It is used to treat vasomotor disorders caused by estrogen deficiency (hot flashes, excessive sweating), atrophic vaginitis, atrophic urethritis, hypogonadism. The drug is also effective for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis caused by estrogen deficiency.

Premarin dosing and administration
The usual dosage is 1.25 mg per day, for 3 weeks with a break of 1 week. The therapy usually starts on the 5th day of the menstrual cycle.

The minimum effective dose should be used in elderly patients.
Premarin contraindications
Premarin is not used in the following cases: - Women with known or suspected breast cancer; - Known or suspected estrogen-dependent tumors; - Bleeding from the genital organs of unknown origin; - Acute thrombophlebitis and thromboembolism; - Known or suspected pregnancy; - Hypersensitivity to the drug.
Premarin is contraindicated during pregnancy.

Premarin drug interactions

Rifampicin may reduce the effectiveness of Premarin.
Premarin special instructions
Before starting therapy, full examination of the patient should be carried out, including tests for blood pressure, breast examination, examination of abdominal and pelvic organs, etc.
