Suprax (cefixime) pharmacological action

Suprax (cefixime) is a semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic for oral administration. It has a broad spectrum of activity. Suprax is resistant to beta-lactamases (enzymes that make the drug ineffective). Suprax acts against Gram-positive bacteria (various streptococci) and Gram negative bacteria (Haemophilus influenza, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Shigella, gonococci). It is resistant to Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus species, Enterobacter species and Listeria species.

The drug can be taken 1 time per day (very convenient, for example, for young children). Diuretics slow down the excretion of cefixime.

What should I know about Suprax (cefixime) indications for use?

The drug is intended to treat infections caused by various organisms susceptible to cefixime (tonsillopharyngitis, sinusitis, otitis media, acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, urogenital infections, pyelonephritis, cystitis, uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis). The drug is widely used in pediatric patients.

In renal impairment the dose should be reduced. Patients who are on hemodialysis should use Suprax in the form of suspension.
