Imovane (zopiclone) is a drug used for the treatment of insomnia (acute, chronic and situational insomnia). This is a psychotropic agent with hypnotic, sedative, anxiolytic, and anticonvulsant action. Imovane is indicated for adults who have difficulty falling asleep.

Imovane reduces the number of nighttime awakenings and helps maintain a normal sleep cycle (typical eight-hour sleep).

Imovane (zopiclone) contraindications

Imovane (zopiclone) should not be given to patients with severe respiratory insufficiency, sleep apnea, severe hepatic impairment, myasthenia gravis, hypersensitivity to the drug. Imovane is not used in pediatric patients (up to 18 years of age). The drug is not recommended for use in lactating and pregnant women.

Imovane (zopiclone) dosage

Imovane tablets should be taken at bedtime. The therapy should last no longer than 1 month (if possible). The recommended adult daily dose is 7.5 mg. Do not use extra doses (excess is not recommended). The average duration of treatment: Transient insomnia - 2-5 days; Situational insomnia - 14-21 days. Imovane (zopiclone) side effects

The most frequently observed adverse events associated with taking Imovane include bitter taste in the mouth. Digestive system: dyspepsia, dry mouth, nausea; in rare cases - elevated liver enzymes. Central nervous system: residual drowsiness, headache, dizziness, anterograde amnesia; rarely - depression, hallucinations, nightmares, confusion, irritability, aggressiveness, confusion, incoordination, depressed mood. Imovane (zopiclone) overdose

Major risk factors for overdose: alcohol beverages and other central nervous system suppressors.

Imovane (zopiclone) warnings

Patients should remember that there is a small possibility of addiction to zopiclone. Imovane may reduce the concentration and the effects of trimipramine. Ritonavir, clarithromycin, erythromycin, and ketoconazole may increase the concentration of zopiclone, while carbamazepine, rifampicin, phenobarbital, phenytoin may reduce zopiclone concentrations.

When used together with Imovane, clozapine can cause shock, respiratory arrest, cardiac abnormalities.
